Sometimes the most striking quality in a photograph is not perfection but the feeling that the person is completely comfortable being herself.

The Difference Between Confidence and Perfection

There is an important difference between looking perfect and feeling comfortable.

Perfection is external.

It depends on whether an image satisfies a particular standard.

Confidence is internal.

It comes from feeling comfortable enough not to obsess over every detail.

They do not appear identical.

They are not styled as though they were part of a commercial campaign.

And that individuality may be what makes the photograph memorable.
