Henry Ford Health System and Michigan State University now have a brand and logo for their joint venture on clinical research, training and cancer care in a new health sciences center located at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Here’s five things to know about Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University:
Henry Ford Health has 115 researchers working at Michigan State on ways to differentiate their cancer center capabilities. The work is supported by an $8 million grant from the National Cancer Institute. The partners are concentrating on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives to eliminate health disparities and address social determinants of health, and to diversify their healthcare workforce.Health Alliance Plan, a not-for-profit Henry Ford subsidiary, and Michigan State University Health Care will offer zero-dollar premium HMO and PPO plans to about 100,000 Medicare-eligible Michigan State alumni.Henry Ford and Michigan State began their partnership in January. The collaboration is similar to a one Henry Ford attempted to create with Wayne State University in 2018. The school’s board of governors opposed the final agreement and affiliation talks collapsed in March 2019.Michigan State researcher Dr. Richard Leach, whom a news release described as a national expert on in vitro fertilization, has been appointed chair of the department of women’s health services for Henry Ford Health.The effort is led by Henry Ford President and CEO Wright L. Lassiter III and Michigan State University President, Dr. Samuel L. Stanley Jr.
