Elon Musk is preparing to announce Tesla’s newest innovations at the long awaited ‘Battery Day’ event on September 22.
Because everything has been kept very tight-lipped, investors and eco-warriors are keeping the rumour-mill churning with countless guesses on what news the tech-billionaire will unleash upon the world next.
Many have speculated that the announcement will revolve around the ‘Million Mile Battery’, which, as the name suggests, is a battery that has a million-mile lifespan.
That would put an end, once and for all, to the misconceptions that electric vehicles (EV) and renewable energy batteries don’t last very long.
Other theories include news of electric planes, cheaper battery production facilities and a dramatic price drop in the cost of renewable energy batteries, making home batteries, renewable energy farms and electric vehicles a much more attainable reality for the nations in the future.

The build-up to the announcement is aligning with the rise in popularity of eco-start ups, like GreenSquare App, who are rallying the support of the public to lead industry and governments towards a renewable energy future.
GreenSquare App launched this year to make investment in renewable energy batteries more accessible to the broader public with price points as low as just a few dollars. The company also hopes to provide cleaner, more affordable energy to the grid, in order to push coal and gas out of the market.

Not a bad idea given Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s recent decision to push forward with a ‘gas-led recovery’ despite the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), CSIRO and an army of economists, scientists and investors suggesting that renewable energy is the stronger economic and environmental option.
On the weekend, Mr Morrison backflipped on part of his ‘gas-led recovery’ plans, no longer threatening to build a 1 gigawatt gas plant in the Hunter Valley. The decision was partly due to private investors planning to build other options that make more sense, including big battery storage.
As renewable energy costs continue to get more affordable, as is expected to be announced on the soon approaching ‘Battery Day’, the road to recovery out of Covid-19 times seems to be looking greener everyday.
