Faig Ahmed is an Azerbaijani artist whose rug designs prove that they can be so much more than just decorations on the floor of your grandparents’ living room (or walls if you’re from Eastern Europe). In his bio, the artist says that his works “reimagine ancient crafts and create new visual boundaries by deconstructing traditions and stereotypes”, and once you see his works, you’ll instantly understand what he means by that.

In an earlier interview with The Guardian, Faig said that he sees rugs as something very stable. “Carpet is the result of ages. Even 2,500 years ago there were similar patterns, similar techniques to today,” said the artist. “The center and the borders are like a social structure, giving the idea of everything we know.”
