BIGBANG’s G-Dragon Purchases ₩9 Billion KRW Luxury Penthouse In Hannam

BIGBANG‘s G-Dragon has purchased and moved into a luxury penthouse apartment worth ₩9 billion KRW ($7,313,510 USD) in Hannam.

According to an exclusive report from Financial News, luxury apartment complex NINE ONE HANNAM recently began having its residents move into their new apartments, and G-Dragon was one of them.

G-Dragon moved to this apartment complex after previously living in Galleria Forest, in Seongsu-dong. It is known that G-Dragon moved into on of the penthouse suites, which is 90 pyeong (3,200 sq ft) in size. Other famous Koreans that will be moving into the apartment complex include Bae Yong Joon and Park Soo Jin, trot singer Jang Yoon Jung, and a member of Lotte Group‘s executive board. A large number of high-ranking political and business leaders are also expected to move into the complex.

NINE ONE HANNAM is a high-grade apartment complex consisting of 9 buildings and 335 houses ranging from 75 to 101 pyeong in size. Each house is equipped with its own private elevator and terrace. NINE ONE HANNAM is a luxury residence that is designed and constructed as a stand-alone housing concept and set a new record for highest pre-sales prices in Korea.

G-Dragon has also posted pictures from what appears to be his new penthouse on his Instagram account.

  G-Dragon’s fans don’t see him as simply a musician and K-pop idol, but as an artistic genius – as evidenced by the lengths they go to to show their appreciation. Recently, G-Dragon has been reciprocating in a way, by granting more sneak peeks of his home that’s seemingly part art gallery. He owns an impressive collection of works, having been an avid patron for years.

  

  In fact, ArtNews, a New York-based visual arts magazine, included G-Dragon along with his BigBang bandmate T.O.P. in its “50 Art Collectors to Watch” list under the contemporary art category in 2019. As G-Dragon’s Instagram posts reveal, inside his swanky, million-dollar penthouse in Seoul are paintings, photographs, sculptures, furniture pieces and collectibles from designers around the world – making his home like a museum.

  One of the most famous works in his home is the 2002 Richard Prince painting called Millionaire Nurse, which, according to an Allkpop report, is worth about US$3.3 million. The artwork is said to have inspired his self-titled album as well as the songs Super Star and Divina Commedia.

  Another key piece that connects to his music would be the Maurizio Cattelan figure, a controversial marble sculpture originally titled L.O.V.E. but better known as The Middle Finger, which reminds us of his song Middle Fingers Up.

  

  He’s also been photographed beside George Condo’s Big John, which is worth an estimated US$985,000, and the four-piece set – Jean Louis, Jean Louis with One Ear, Jean Louis’ Wife and Jean Louis’ Wife’s Sister, worth around US$370,000, according to Koreaboo.

  

  Along the hallways of his home are a series of artworks that give off the same vibe as his album covers, as well as the custom designs he creates for his fashion collaborations. Super-saturated, vibrantly colourful and created with a hint of playfulness, the works include an untitled 2016 oil and enamel piece by Rudolf Stingel, the 2018 Ricardo Passaporte piece Exciting Love and Ugo Rondinone’s fluorescent-painted totems called Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Pink Mountain, as identified by Hypebeast.

A series of prints by conceptual artist John Baldessari includes images of former Victoria’s Secret model Karlie Kloss and actors Drew Barrymore and James Franco; and a 2005 work called Two Smiles (One With Spinach). As per the same Hypebeast report, G-Dragon also seems to be fond of the works of Anthony Rianda, and a picture of Muhammad Ali on a Life magazine cover may have been a commissioned work by the painter. T.O.P. is likewise a fan of Rianda, according to Artnet.

  

  Look closely and you’ll spot collectibles and other items of home decor that also carry hefty price tags. In his living room are Hermès Avalon pillows, which are about US$1,000 each. We’ve also spotted Holiday plushies from American artist Kaws that come in a set of three, which cost US$1,400 to US$3,500 per piece. He’s also got his hands on a rare Man Ray chess set, worth “hundreds of thousands of dollars” per Hypebeast.

  As for furniture, G-Dragon’s home uses a mix of modern styles that are clean and streamlined, such as the one-piece dining table by Valentin Loellmann, the Jean Prouvé standard chairs, which are about US$1,000 each, and some Tabouret Meribel-Berger stools, also about the same price. Among his statement furniture pieces identified by Hypebeast are the Jean Royère Ours Polaire, or the polar bear arm chair – a popular choice of the truly rich and worth at least US$100,000, according to recent estimates by Christie’s – and the Ron Arad bookworm table, which retails for US$10,000 to US$15,000, with only 20 ever produced.
