The behind-the-scenes of actor Park Seo-joon’s costume in “The Marvels” has been revealed
“The Marvels” (directed by Nia DaCosta) depicts the story of three female superheroes, “Captain Marvel” Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau and “Ms. Marvel” Kamala Khan, teaming up to fight against the villains.
The costume design was handled by Lindsay Pugh and her team. They meticulously examined not only comics but also all MCU movies and series to conceptualize the details of the costumes.
Despite his brief appearance, Prince Yan (Park Seo-joon) left a strong impression with his suit, which was composed to showcase his inner strength and stature on the planet. Lindsay Pugh shared behind-the-scenes details, “Prince Yan needed to be strong but also have a somewhat serious feel. His costume had to shine with beautiful colors yet possess a hint of strength.“
The villain Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), the leader of the Kree, had costumes created to look grand and robust, with broad shoulders, numerous jewels and the use of textures that convey a strong impression. Although her costumes changed throughout the movie, consistency was maintained in terms of color, fabric texture, stud embellishments…
Regarding the costume of the main character Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Lindsay Pugh explained, “Captain Marvel is invincible, so she needs nothing. Director Nia DaCosta and executive producer Mary Livanos wanted Captain Marvel to resemble the illustrations in the comics more closely.”
She also designed the black-and-white costume for Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) by evolving the design from the comics. Monica Rambeau’s aesthetics are monochromatic.
Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) wears the suit worn in Disney+’s series “Ms. Marvel”. However, as the story unfolds and Kamala grows, changes occur in the suit, reflecting her personality. As she enjoys being a superhero at a stage where she is much younger than other heroes, her new suit is more colorful and adorned with more decorations.
