Anne Curtis and Vice Ganda clarify that all is fine after viral “brandagulan” on It’s Showtime, stressing it was a “lapse of judgment on both sides.”
The It’s Showtime hosts made the statement on X (formerly Twitter) a day after the “brandagulan” on the show went viral.
In case you missed it, social media users called out Vice Ganda on Jan. 20 after she tricked Anne Curtis into saying a tagline of the rival brand the latter is an endorser of during the “EXpecially for you” segment.
In the video, Vice said “Nice, Ganda,” to which the co-host followed with “Ganda!”
“Sabihin mo nga ‘Nice! Ganda!'” Vice told Anne, which she also said before realizing it was Jollibee’s competing brand McDonald’s tagline.
“Bad ‘yon! Sa akiin! Pasensya po kayo, ‘di ko sinasadya ‘yon,” the 38-year-old host said. “Ikaw ‘pag nawalan ako ng kontrata,” she told the Praybeyt Benjamin star.
“I hope Jollibee understands this situation. I am with Anne Curtis on this one. It’s a job and she wants to honor the contract. Be careful na lang po next time Vice Ganda as this is not funny. We can see ung kaba ni Anne,” an X user wrote.
Some also pointed out how Vice was “insensitive” and “unprofessional” for jeopardizing Anne’s work commitment as an ambassador of local fast-food chain brand Jollibee.
The following day, Anne, who made an endorsement video shortly after the show, cleared the air regarding the issue, saying “It was a lapse of judgment on both sides.”
“Guys, kalma. No need for such negative energy. Vice and I are fine. It was a lapse of judgment on both sides. At least we can move forward and be keyrfuul,” she wrote on X.
“Ganyan ang [biruan] backstage but syempre dapat iba pag on air. Kaya kalma. It’s a beautiful day,” she continued, adding Jollibee’s tagline, “Gawin na lang #BidaAngSaya every day! HAHAHAHA!”
“Ang kj mo! Ok yan para trending! Chozzz!!! But yes it was lapse of judgement. It was our usual ‘brandagulan’ moment na late nya narealize so nasabi nya ung tagline ng di nya namalayan,” Vice explained.
“I apologized to her And pinagtawanan n lng namin. Our sisterhood will always be Nice Ganda!” she continued.
In the following tweets, the Partners in Crime star further admitted her mistake, saying that sometimes she doesn’t “think enough” when making banters.
“No. At times [I] dont think enough. Sa kagustuhan kong magpatawa bira ako ng bira kaya minsan sablay. Sometimes i hate myself. Pero ganun talaga sa comedy man o sa real life talagang hit and miss. And we’ll just have to try again,” she wrote.
“I put Anne in an uncomfortable situation. Wrong. Sorry,” the comedian added in a separate post.
Jollibee also assured fans that all is well by quote replying to Anne, “We [love] you, Anne! Best friends pa rin tayo!”
More social media users, meanwhile, expressed how happy they were that the two comedians were okay.
“[A]t the end of the day, they’re still sisterettes. love u two!!!” one X user wrote.
Another one commended Vice for acknowledging her mistake.
“You acknowledging your mistake and humbly saying that you’re sorry is worth all the love and respect meme. Love you po. We love you and [Anne Curtis] dearly!” an X user posted.
