Britney Spears made the heartbreaking confession about her abortion in her explosive memoir The Woman In Me, and revealed then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake did not support her decision to keep the baby
Britney Spears broke down in tears during a candid interview as she revealed she wanted to be a mum, just one year after having a secret abortion.
The Toxic hitmaker made the heartbreaking revelation in her memoir The Woman In Me, as she wrote about falling pregnant while in a relationship with Justin Timberlake. Britney admitted while they were only 20 years old at the time, she desperately wanted to keep the baby, but Justin didn’t support her choice, as he told her they were too young.
“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” the pop icon wrote. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
In an unearthed interview from 2001, just one year after Britney had the procedure, the Grammy-winning singer spoke about her desire to have a family of her own, and cried as she revealed her hopes and dreams of having a baby. In the candid recording for the MTV series Rare, the Everything hitmaker is sat in front of a black screen as she’s asked questions about her personal life. Britney is softly spoken as she’s quizzed, but she becomes emotional when asked if she wants to have a family of her own.
“A family? Yes! Definitely. In 20 years, I see myself around my pool with my kids running around, and having swimming parties whilst I drink margaritas with my girlfriends,” she laughed. “I definitely want to have a family. Definitely.”
She’s then asked “what kind of parent do you want to be”, and as she answers, she’s visibly tearful. “I would like to be just like my mom. I would like to be just like her. She’s such a spiritual person, and such a beautiful lady. So, I want to be like her,” she whispers while crying.
Britney then goes on to discuss her career, and confessed she “doesn’t like being called a role model”, as she’s made “mistakes” in her life. “I’m human, just like you, and everybody else. And I make a lot of mistakes too. And I’ve just got to try and be me,” she explained.
One year after the interview, Britney split from Justin, and the couple’s relationship was thrust into the spotlight, as the Rock Your Body hitmaker spoke crudely about his sex life with the pop star, and accused her of cheating. She moved on, and eventually ended up marrying backing dancer Kevin Federline, and the couple welcomed two sons – Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 17.
But the couple’s marriage ended just three years later, and their two sons are thought to spend most of their time with dad Kevin, as Britney was granted 30% unsupervised visitation rights in September 2019. Last year, Kevin revealed Sean and Jayden didn’t attend mom Britney’s wedding to Sam Asghari, and they were embarrassed by her posting nude selfies on Instagram. “It’s tough. I can’t imagine how it feels to be a teenager having to go to high school,” he told MailOnline.
