On March 8, a post was made on the popular Korean forum theqoo with the title “Crash Landing on You Author Plagiarism’s Victim Had Suicide Attempt”
The post attached the full text of the victim’s letter to the hit drama “Crash Landing on You” writer Park Ji-eun, saying, “The aspiring writer (who was plagiarized)‘s mother has severe dementia, and the victim has received psychiatric treatment and attempted suicide. Meanwhile, the perpetrator became successful and sold the rights of the drama to the U.S. for a remake. Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, the main cast, got married with everyone’s congratulations. And after that, Park Ji-eun’s next work, tvN’s “Queen of Tears” starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, will be aired soon.”
This post refers to “Crash Landing On You” plagiarism scandal. Before the drama was aired, the new writer accused writer Park Ji-eun of plagiarizing the works he submitted for contests from 2021 to 2013 for the overall storyline and the beginning of the drama, which tell the story of a South Korean girl having a crash landing and falling in love with a North Korean soldier. Later, as the drama became a hit, his accusations were forgotten and he was even sued by “Crash Landing On You”‘s side.
In the comment section, Korean netizens are shocked to hear the news. Some even aspire to boycott Park’s next works. The comments are as follows:
“Oh my…”
“Oh, so crazy “Queen of Tears” is that writer’s? I’ll never watch it”
“If she was good at casting top stars and got some ratings, she’ll cast top stars for the next work and get some ratings as well, and it’s going to be repeated. I’m sorry for the victim..”
“The people who watch it are just as bad”
“I’m not going to watch it even if my favorite actor stars in it”
“Sigh”
“I’m so sorry that I used to enjoy Crash Landing on You”
“It’s so scary that the perpetrator doesn’t even care”
