Sophie Turner’s legal team has requested a judge ‘reactivate’ her and Joe Jonas’ divorce proceedings.
The singer filed for divorce in September 2023 after four years of being married to the Game of Thrones actor.
The pair later released a joint statement on their social media pages, however, the situation became increasingly more complicated when Turner filed a legal petition accusing Jonas of ‘wrongful detention’ of the pair’s children in New York.
The statement announcing the pair’s split read: “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Turner then sued Jonas, arguing they’d chosen to make England their two daughters’ permanent home and that Jonas was allegedly withholding their children’s passports and refusing to send them to the UK.
A spokesperson for Jonas responded at the time stating the pair had met up in New York and it was Jonas’ ‘impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup’.
“Less than 24 hours later, Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately. If he complies, Joe will be in violation of the Florida Court order.
“Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the U.S. and the UK.”
Thankfully, the pair reached a temporary custody agreement – reported as being in place until early 2024 – releasing a statement which read: “After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the UK. We look forward to being great co-parents.”
Jonas filed to dismiss his divorce case, both he and Turner noted in court documents obtained by Page Six as wanting to ‘pursue an amicable resolution of all issues,’ and Turner later dropped the ‘wrongful retention’ claims.
Turner’s legal team has since filed paperwork in Miami-Dade County, Florida according to PEOPLE.
The court documents – seen by the outlet – state ‘that the abatement has come to an end and this case is to be re-activated’.
However, a representative for Jonas told UNILAD: “The filing was a legal formality, and the couple continues to negotiate an amicable resolution.”
UNILAD has contacted Sophie Turner’s representatives for comment.
