A, who claimed to have been Nam Joo-hyuk’s school violence victim, received an order of a fine but filed an appeal against it
On April 8th, A’s legal representative filed for a formal trial at the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court.
A, introduced as Nam Joo-hyuk’s high school classmate, reportedly told B, who worked for a media outlet, of the fact that they were subjected to school violence by Nam Joo-hyuk’s group. In June 2022, B then published an article about A being Nam Joo-hyuk’s school violence victim. At that time, the media outlet said, “The informant suffered because of Nam Joo-hyuk’s school violence for six years in middle school and high school and has been receiving mental treatment until now”.
Nam Joo-hyuk’s SOOP Management filed a criminal complaint against B, the media outlet and A for defamation with false reports. When the school violence allegation was raised, A said, “I told B that I was subjected to school violence by Nam Joo-hyuk’s group, not the actor, but that information was not revealed and I’ve asked for correction”.
Management SOOP appointed Shin&Kim as their legal representative to sue A and B. On March 28th, Goyang District Court fined A and B 7 million won each, saying “Nam Joo-hyuk never committed school violence or bullied other friends. A and B conspired to spread false information and defame Nam Joo-hyuk”.
In this regard, A’s lawyer said, “It is true that A reported to B that they were abused by Nam Joo-hyuk’s friends, not Nam Joo-hyuk, and there is evidence to prove that. It will be revealed during the trial”, adding “The statement, ‘Nam Joo-hyuk did not bully other friends’ is questionable. During the trial, we will also reveal the truth through the questioning of witnesses.”
