Gordon Ramsay may be used to dishing out criticism, but now he’s in the firing line for his ‘classic’ but incredibly expensive full English breakfast, with baffled social media users arguing it’s a ‘complete and utter rip off’.
Ramsay shared a photo of the ‘most amazing full English’, telling fans it would be available to order at the Savoy Grill – his restaurant at the Savoy Hotel in London – from 21 September.
“Can’t wait for you to try it,” he tweeted.
The most amazing Full English…. can’t wait for you to try it from 21st September at Savoy Grill ! @GordonRamsayGRR pic.twitter.com/zmJ4OFwa64- Gordon Ramsay (@GordonRamsay) September 13, 2020Advert
On the plate you’ll see one solitary sausage, half a tomato, a single mushroom, two fried eggs and some bacon (an inexplicable amount, considering what else is on the plate?! Not that I’m complaining, of course).
The dish is topped off with what I’m assuming is a garnish of watercress, while the baked beans linger at the edge of the frame in what I’m worried may be a silver gravy boat.
But it gets worse.
One Twitter user commented under the post with a screenshot of the Savoy Grill menu, writing: “Wow £19 for that breakfast.”

The menu describes the brekkie as a ‘Quintessentially British Breakfast’ with ‘pork sausage, smoked back bacon, tomato, mushroom, baked beans, eggs and style’, and comes with a price tag of £19.
There’s also no mention of any toast, which I’m really hoping is just an oversight on the menu, and don’t even think about any black pudding – that’s an optional extra for £5, as is a single pork sausage, mushroom, tomato or even an egg.
Someone else spotted the extras and wasn’t best pleased either, commenting: “Can’t wait for you to try it!!!!! Are the sides £5 each or is that for all of them???? Who is mug enough to pay a fiver for one sausage??? Get a grip GR.”

Another said: “Never mind a sausage mate. Tomatoes & avocado are a fiver too. I hope this falls flat on its arse. Piss taking chef of the highest order.”
A third wrote: “Never mind the £19. Add an extra tenner for a second sausage and a slice of pudding, a fiver for your coffee, £2 cover and 15% gratuity added to the bill as well. You’re in or around £42.”
While some tried to defend the offering as ‘you’re paying for the whole Savoy experience’, most people concluded that even it was pretty spenny breakfast, especially given the size of the fry-up.
