Rihanna did not attend the Met Gala this year after reportedly coming down with an illness. She even teased fans that she was having to pick from two gowns that she had ready to wear for the event
The queen of the Met Gala was not in attendance due to reportedly coming down with an illness.
Rihanna is known to take risks with her fashion choices when it comes to walking the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual fundraiser.
But the closest thing fans were to seeing Rihanna at the event was celebrities wearing her brand, Fenty Beauty on their faces as a source claimed to PEOPLE that she had come down with flu.
The singer was recently seen spending her weekend in Miami with her partner A$AP Rocky, as she supported his pop-up shop with Puma. She also celebrated a new launch in Los Angeles for her makeup brand and teased that she was going to “keep it real simple this year” when it came to her Met Gala look this year.

She told Extra: “I’m actually keeping it real simple this year. … It’s gonna come to what my makeup and what my hair is going to do.” She added: “Very simple-ish … compared to everything I have done.” Rihanna even revealed that she had two gown picked out.
Fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, were upset to not see their queen at the Met. One person wrote in Spanish: “The Met Gala without Rihanna is not the same.” Another person on Instagram wrote: “cancel the event! we need my badgurl @badgalriri.” A third person wrote: “There’s no met Gala without Rihanna.”
The Met Gala is held every year on the first Monday of May. The exclusive event raises money for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art also known as The Anna Wintour Costume Centre. The event is named for the editor-in-chief of Vogue, who has chaired the gala since 1995.

The Met Gala is known to be one of fashion’s biggest night of the year and celebrity guests go all out with their fashion choices. The Met Gala has a strict dress code that Anna approves of. She also chooses a mix of celebrities to help organise the event. This year, Bad Bunny, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth and Jennifer Lopez were part of the chair committee. The Garden of Time dress code goes hand in hand with the post-Gala fashion exhibit and theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
Rihanna was not the only anticipated guest that was not able to make it. Blake Lively, who is known for stunning the Met Gala, did not attend this year.
