Ogie Alcasid admitted that he has been waiting for the succeeding steps that will be taken by his firstborn, singer Leila Alcasid, quipping he gets the feeling she might settle down sometime soon.
Ogie spoke about this after he was asked how he is as a father, during his interview in “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” last Friday, May 24.
“Kay Leila, ako ay naghihintay kasi mukhang—hindi ko alam—mag-aasawa na yata ‘yung panganay ko,” he said.
When show host Abunda further asked if Ogie got mad when Leila opted for a live-in setup with her boyfriend, rapper Curtismith, the veteran singer-songwriter answered affirmatively.
“Oo naman, nagtampo ako. Kasi itong buong panahon na naghintay ako—hindi naman natin maipagkakaila na hindi siya lumaki sa akin,” he stated. “So nung time na nag-isip siya na tumira na dito sa Pilipinas, sabi ko, ‘Oh, ito ‘yung pagkakataon na magiging close kami, magiging magkasama kami hanggang sa panahong mag-aasawa na siya.”
Prior to moving to the Philippines, Leila lived in Australia with her mom, former beauty queen Michelle van Eimeren, and sister Sarah.
“‘Yun nga lang, meron pala silang ibang plano,” he added, referring to Leila and Curtismith. “Sinabi ko ‘yung saloobin ko na buo naman nilang tinanggap. ‘Yun nga lang, sila ay adults na e. So kung gusto niyong mag-adulting, pababayaan ko kayo. Wala tayong magagawa bilang magulang.”
“Like what you say—”, Ogie continued, pointing at Abunda, “It is what it is.”
“May mga pagsisisi ako syempre bilang ama, at sa pamilya namin marami akong pagkukulang pero pilit kong pinagbabawian ‘yon,” he said.
Ogie first opened up in September last year on his misgivings about Leila moving in with Curtismith.
At the time, Ogie said he would rather have his children live with him for as long as they can, but that he wouldn’t butt heads with Leila because she was old enough to make her own decisions.
Aside from Leila and Sarah, Ogie has a son named Nate with his wife, veteran actress-singer Regine Velasquez.
