Dominic Roque filed a cyber libel complaint against veteran showbiz columnist Cristy Fermin for her supposedly “malicious statements and innuendos” against the actor.
Roque lodged the case before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Pasig City on Friday, May 31, as per GMA entertainment reporter Nelson Canlas.
“Ang ilang malicious statements and innuendos na sinabi ni Fermin sa kanyang YouTube channel na ‘Showbiz Now Na’ ang naging basehan ng aktor para magsampa ng kaso,” Canlas stated.
It can be noted that back in February, at the height of Roque’s breakup with actress Bea Alonzo, the actor’s legal team released a statement condemning the “malicious and defamatory public statements” made by Fermin on the matter.
“In her vlog, Ms. Fermin made malicious defamatory innuendos. These innuendoes alluded that Mr. Dominic Roque has a benefactor who is a politician and that this politician is the owner of the condominium unit where he currently resides,” a part of the statement reads.
“The malicious and baseless innuendos were quickly picked up by social media netizens, several of whom even uploaded a photo of Dapitan City Mayor Bullet Jalosjos, without his knowledge and consent. There is absolutely no truth to these malicious innuendos,” it further noted.
Roque’s legal counsel continued: “In a separate vlog, Ms. Fermin made a malicious defamatory statement that former Congressman Bong Suntay is one of the suspected benefactors of Mr. Dominic Roque. By making such a statement, Ms. Fermin made the innuendo that unreasonably casts doubt on the sexuality of former Congressman Bong Suntay.”
They also stressed that Fermin “acted outside the bounds of protected free speech” and “intentionally caused damage to the integrity and honor” of Roque and the personalities involved.
Meanwhile, this is the latest addition to the cyber libel complaints faced by Fermin. Other celebrities who have filed lawsuits against her are Alonzo and couple Sharon Cuneta and Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
