Navicent Health is the latest health system to raise its minimum wage.

The Macon, Ga.-based health system announced Wednesday it has upped its minimum wage from $7.25 to $10 per hour. Navicent said the change means it’s investing an additional $1.2 million in its employees.

Navicent CEO Ninfa Saunders said in a statement that the change moves hundreds of employees to a living wage.

The change affects hourly workers, and Navicent noted the new minimum wage exceeds the federal government’s pay requirements.

The increase took effect Sept. 6, and will appear on employees’ paychecks on Sept. 25. Navicent said the increase ensures that its starting wages are competitive among healthcare employers. Navicent noted it has a number of job openings.

A number of health systems have increased their minimum wage requirements in recent years as a way to retain employees, including Advocate Aurora Health, Cleveland Clinic and Atrium Health, which merged with Navicent in 2019.
