The couple left without paying after dining, leaving the restaurant staff with a bill of nearly 6 million Vietnamese dong. “The amount of money is not small for me,” the waitress expressed in frustration.
Many restaurants are struggling through tough times, and yet, some customers intentionally “dine and dash.” Recently, a restaurant on Outram Road in Singapore faced such a situation.
Waitress Chen Wei, 38, shared that the couple entered when the restaurant was about to close. They ordered several signature dishes, including egg spinach soup, stewed chicken, steamed promfret, and drinks.
The total bill was around $245.6 USD. The steamed promfret alone cost $208 USD. Ms.Chen mentioned that the couple dined for nearly an hour. Since they had some leftovers, they requested the restaurant staff to pack the food for takeout.
Along with a chef and another staff member, Ms. Chen had to work overtime to serve the couple. She packaged the food and left the takeaway bags on their table. They took the bags and left quickly, getting into a taxi without her noticing.
The restaurant’s surveillance cameras captured the man wearing a white dress shirt, while the woman wore a black T-shirt. They appeared to be in their 40s, looking quite calm and chatting cheerfully. Because the customers didn’t pay their bill, Ms. Chen had to cover the entire amount.
“The amount on the bill is not small for me. I hope they will return and settle the debt as soon as possible,” she shared.
This was the first time she encountered such customers. Previous customers might have forgotten to pay, but they typically called the restaurant and transferred the money afterward, as reported by Asia1.
“I hope the customers will return to settle the bill, but it’s been a week, and no one has come,” she said.
She also promised herself that to avoid a similar mistake, she would double-check that customers have paid before moving on to other tasks.
Earlier, the Korean BBQ restaurant Pa Bul LO in Serangoon Garden (Singapore) faced a similar situation.
A couple left the restaurant without paying after finishing their meal. The total bill for their meal was $269 USD.
The restaurant found the couple but initially both refused to pay. After the restaurant threatened legal action, the woman paid half of the amount.
The restaurant owner shared the incident on social media, and afterward, a stranger offered to pay the remaining amount for the couple. The person believed that this experience would teach the man who initially refused to pay a valuable lesson.
