Lionsgate Films released their first look at Bill Skarsgård‘s take on the supernatural hero Eric Draven for the upcoming remake of James O’Barr’s The Crow.
In some new images from Vanity Fair, these shots include Skarsgård as the newly resurrected hero as well as the actor portraying Draven in the character’s early years with Draven’s girlfriend, Shelly.
The upcoming remake will follow Eric Draven, an emo rocker, who gets murdered alongside his girlfriend Shelly after a terrible demon from Shelly’s past catches up with the two.
However, Draven gets resurrected from limbo by the iconic crow, which puts him on a path to avenge their deaths.
The Crow first saw the big screen in 1994 with Brandon Lee in the leading role and has since spawned several sequels including The Crow: City of Angels, The Crow: Salvation, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer.
There was also one TV adaptation based on the comics in 1998 with The Crow: Stairway to Heaven.
Speaking on the tragic passing of Lee, O’Barr stated to Vanity Fair: “It was a terrible tragedy, and it’s definitely something that we’ve always had in mind… I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow and I hope [Lee]’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back again.”
In the past, there have been several actors who portrayed the character including Vincent Pérez, Eric Mabius, Mark Dascascos and Ed Furlong.
However, there have also been different iterations of O’Barr’s comic book icon, including Eric Draven himself.
In addition to Skarsgård, the cast of The Crow will also include FKA Twigs and Danny Huston with a script written by Zach Baylin (Creed III) and Will Schneider.
Producers include Edward R. Pressman, Samuel Hadida, Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell and John Jencks.
Rupert Sanders’ The Crow remake releases in theaters on June 7, 2024.
