A Brisbane school is scheduling year 12 exams around Taylor Swift concerts in consideration for students travelling interstate for the sold-out shows.
Students will sit the exams from February 27 to March 1 but eager fans will be travelling down the coast to see the popstar live at the Australian leg of her Eras tour, which will conclude a day before exams begin.
Wynnum State High School, in an email obtained by InQueensland, is allowing students attending the concerts to schedule their tests later in the exam block.
“I have been informed that a number of students will be interstate on the previous weekend and some up until Tuesday 27 February attending one of the Taylor Swift concerts,” deputy principal Lisa Hawkin wrote.
“If your child will not be in Brisbane on Tuesday 27 February please let me know via email.
“We will endeavour to schedule the exams your child will sit later in the week.”
Wynnum State High School has refused to comment.
A Department of Education spokesperson said the email was to gauge the impact of the Swift concerts on student attendance to factor in with the scheduling of exams.
“As is standard practice across schools, it is not unreasonable for the principal to understand student arrangements during exam periods to ensure they are catering for students while ensuring adherence to Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority requirements,” the spokesperson said.
“Parents with concerns around these issues are encouraged to speak with their school in the first instance.”
The pop star will perform three shows in Melbourne from February 16 to 18 before playing four shows in Sydney from February 23 to 26.
Her arrival has caused a frenzy nationwide, first with record-breaking numbers crashing ticket seller websites and then with a rise in scams preying on thousands of desperate fans who missed out.
Deloitte experts have estimated her time here will flush $220 million into the economy.
