Raye has officially made BRIT Awards history by becoming the most-awarded artist in a single year. The London-born singer-songwriter, 26, had already broken records by receiving seven nominations, beating the six received in previous years by Craig David, Gorillaz and Robbie Williams.
She went into the evening with one already in the bag – songwriter of the year, which was announced ahead of Saturday’s ceremony.
Despite facing stiff competition in other categories from artists like Dua Lipa, Olivia Dean and J Hus, the former BRIT School student proved triumphant, nabbing Best Artist, Album, Song for Escapism, New Artist, Pop Act and R&B Act.
She actually received a double nomination in the Best Song category – for Prada and Escapism – so six was the maximum number of trophies she could take home on the night in addition to the one she already had.
The previous record for the most BRITS at a single ceremony was four, jointly held by Blur (1995), Adele (2016) and Harry Styles (2023).
Raye broke down in tears after taking her grandmother Agatha with her on stage as she collected her final award of the evening for Mastercard Album of the Year.
This year’s star-studded ceremony took place at the London O2 Arena in Greenwich and was hosted by Capital Breakfast presenter Roman Kemp, Love Island host Maya Jama and veteran broadcaster Clara Amfo.
Music fans were treated to eight live performances with some artists coming together on stage for exciting duets.
Dua Lipa kicked off proceedings, followed by Becky Hill X Chase & Status, Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, Jungle, Kylie Minogue, Tate McRae, RAYE and Rema.
