Britney Spears has stacked her legal team with divorce lawyer to the stars Laura Wasser amid her separation from Sam Asghari, a source tells Page Six exclusively.
An insider with knowledge of the situation confirmed to us Wednesday that the pop star hired the powerhouse attorney as her split from the Iranian-born actor is likely to turn into a nasty battle inside the courtroom.
A source told Page Six exclusively earlier on Wednesday that Asghari, 29, is allegedly seeking to change the terms of the prenuptial agreement that he and Spears, 41, signed.
The insider alleged that the “Family Business” actor is “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.”
Reps for Asghari did not return Page Six’s request for comment on those allegations.
Spears hiring Wasser, 55, may not come as a surprise as the “Piece of Me” singer hired the family law attorney when she was fighting her ex-husband Kevin Federline for custody of their two sons, Sean Preston, now 17, and Jayden, now 16, back in 2008.
At the time, a judge ordered Spears to pay Federline, 45, $20,000 a month in child support payments.
Wasser previously said her superstar client was pleased with the ruling and told reporters, “Britney is doing great. She’s with her kids right now.”
The Los Angeles-based lawyer has since taken on a string of A-list clientele, including Kim Kardashian, Johnny Depp, and more recently, Kevin Costner and Joe Manganiello.
Wasser is a big advocate for everyone — not just celebrities — to get their finances in order before getting married.
She said in January 2020, “Every couple should have a prenuptial agreement, regardless of wealth. You are making the biggest decision of your life to marry someone, so you should have an agreement about key things like kids, finances and how you plan to care for your parents as they get older.”
Former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, who helped free Spears from her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021, worked out the terms of the Grammy winner’s agreement with Asghari.
After the personal trainer proposed in September 2021 with a custom ring, the attorney ensured that same month that Jamie Spears, his client’s father and former conservator, did not impede on the prenup’s terms.
Britney and Asghari’s split comes more than a year after the estranged couple got married in a star-studded wedding at the “Toxic” singer’s California home in June 2022.
