If a car is equipped with a sunroof, regular maintenance is crucial.
The sunroof is designed with a water channel around the door, along with four water drains at the corners of the channel.
Accumulated debris in the channel, if not cleaned properly, may lead to clogging in the water drains, causing water to overflow into the ceiling and spill onto the carpet. In the case of prolonged rain with clogged water drains, water accumulation on the car floor may occur.
Users can perform maintenance by using a soft cloth to wipe away dust, leaves, or debris in the water channel located right inside the rubber gasket. Specifically, water drains are usually located at the corners of the sunroof and under the rubber gasket.
Step 1: Remove dirt
Start by using a soft mop or brush to remove dust from the sunroof glass surface. For stubborn stains, use a warm water solution combined with a mild dish soap.
Step 2: Check the sunroof condition
Check for scratches, cracks, or fissures. If any issues are detected, perform repairs immediately to prevent further deterioration in the future.
Step 3: Clean the water channel and drains
To clean the sunroof water drains at home, car owners can use a small and flexible metal wire, inserted into the water drain. Then, rotate the wire in different directions while pushing it inside each water drain to remove debris, dirt… causing clogging in the system. Note not to use a sharp-tipped wire to avoid damaging the water drain system.
Step 4: Clean the fabric ceiling
After cleaning the glass part, clean the fabric ceiling beneath the glass layer. This part tends to accumulate more dust. Besides using dish soap, a soft brush can be used to scrub this area.
