Cristine Reyes shared that she was adopted as a child as her mother needed to go to the US.
“My mom, she was going through a phase in her life where she had to go to the States, leave all her kids, all of us to somebody else. Ako lang nahiwalay, I didn’t know mga kapatid ko,” the actress revealed in an interview with Karen Davila.
“Hindi ko alam na kapatid ko siya (Ara Mina) nun,” she added.
The actress was around 6 or 7 years old when her mom got her back again.
Cristine revealed that her childhood experience left a massive impact on her.
“When my mom got me, hindi ako nagsasalita when I was a child. Hindi naman ako ‘yung hindi makasalita but I shut down when she got me,” she relayed.
The actress continued: “It was years, not just months, years na hindi ako nagsasalita noong bata ako. Nagsasalita na lang ako kapag nasa school ako, ‘pag babalik ako ng bahay, quiet ulit ako, ‘di ako nagsasalita. Kapag kakausapin ako ng mga tao sa bahay, magna-nod lang ako.”
Christine relayed that her adoptive family continued supporting her while growing up.
“My adopted family was very supportive naman so they go [to school events] if my mom wouldn’t make it. Showbiz naman, when I entered the business, ako lang ‘yung walang bantay, but sometimes naman my [adoptive] family would go,” she stated.
When asked how is her relationship with her mother today, Cristine replied: “It’s not perfect pero alam mo ‘yun when I see her I say hi and alam mo ‘yun talagang tanggalin mo na ‘yung nangyari sa past kasi di tayo makaka-move forward in life kung dala-dala mo pa rin ‘yun and I told my sister na rin and I’m sure she told everyone pagod na ako magalit.”
How about her relationship with her sister Ara?
“Same with my mom, it’s a love-hate relationship. It’s not perfect, it’s not ideal pero kasi that’s how we are. Kapag kailangan namin ang isa’t isa nandiyan kami para sa isa’t isa. It’s not like the perfect family… pero kapag may kailangan ‘yung isang tao, may sakit whatever, basta kailangan ka, nandiyan kami, ganun kami.
