For the first time, Danica Sotto spoke about the past cheating allegations involving her husband, basketball player Marc Pingris, and actress Kim Rodriguez, saying that she got “irritated with the way people make up stories” and how she “reminded her husband to be cautious about the people he spends time with, given the malicious minds of others.”
In an interview on “Updated with Nelson Canlas” posted on Tuesday, May 28, the celebrity mom admitted that she felt the need now to talk about the issue just to provide clarity.
“Napikon lang naman ako kasi nakakatawa ang galing magtahi-tahi ng tao ng kwento. I’ll give an example. Sabi ko nga ayoko na sanang pag-usapan kasi we really want to move on from it, pero para magkaroon lang ng clarity,” she said.
Sotto asserted that at the time the cheating rumors surfaced, she posted a quote about loyalty and betrayal, pertaining to a different situation where someone betrayed them regarding a business, but people assumed she was talking about her husband cheating.
“Noong time na iyon, aaminin ko, it was a feeling that I was feeling about someone else, na parang napipikon ako sa isang tao. And that is a person na nangloko sa amin sa negosyo. A person we truly trusted,” she clarified.
“This tabloid, ang ginawa, kinuha ‘yung quote ko na ‘yun. Sinabi na I’m confirming daw the issue kasi pinapatamaan ko daw si Marc. Pero hindi na ako nagsalita,” continued the celebrity mom.
Given that instances, Sotto shared that she and Pingris agreed to not post anything anymore that the people could take out of context, even as she reminded her husband to be wary of people he gets to be seen with.
“Ako naman sa side ko, pinagsabihan ko lang siya na, ingat sa mga nakakasama, ingat sa mga pinupuntahan. Minsan kasi, sa’yo wala lang ‘yun, you’re too friendly or—hindi friendly, accommodating. Diba? ‘Yung parang, oh, ito chika-chika. Ganoon naman mga basketball player,” she explained.
Despite being used to controversies as the child of famous parents, Sotto said that she got affected when their children are being dragged into the issue, as well as the remark that she’s suffering from the karma brought about by her parents, Vic Sotto and Dina Bonnevie.
“Siyempre, napikon ako pag anak mo na ‘yung tinitira. May sasabihin na masama, na very very foul. I think ‘yung foul doon is parang may mga sinabi na it’s the karma of my parents. ‘Yung ganoon,” she said.
“Ang rude. Diba na parang, oh yeah, dahil sa mga kasalanan ng mga magulang kaya nagsasabi. Parang gusto kong sabihin, first of all, mali ang statement na ‘yan. And pangalawa, hindi niyo alam ‘yung buong story. Nag-speculate na kayo hindi niyo alam kung anong totoo at hindi,” added the 42-year-old mother.
In March, Pingris and Rodriguez got tied to a cheating controversy after their respective pictures in Australia, posted on different dates, sharing the same background and another photo being in the same place in Manila resurfaced on the internet.
At the time, Pingris and Rodriguez both denied the claims that they were having an affair.
