The winners of the OTT series categories at the 59th Grand Bell Awards have been announce with Disney+ triumphing
On November 15, the 59th Grand Bell Awards took place at Gyeonggi Arts Center Daegukjang in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do. This awards ceremony is considered one of the top three film awards in South Korea, along with the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Baeksang Arts Awards, and has undergone a period of turmoil, leading to a reorganization with a renewed commitment to innovation.
The introduction of the OTT category was one of the innovations this time.In particular, Netflix’s “Mask Girl” and “The Glory”, as well as Disney+’s “Big Bet” and “Moving”, were nominated for Best Picture. The prestigious award eventually went to Disney Plus’s “Moving”, which received praise for creating a new Korean-style hero fantasy.
Meanwhile, Director Kang Yoon-sung of “Big Bet” won the Best Director award in the series category. In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to the cast, staff, production team, and Disney+ officials for their support throughout the project.
The categories of Best Actor and Best Actress in a series were more diverse in terms of platforms. In particular, The Best Actor nominees included Choi Min-sik of “Big Bet”, Ryu Seung-ryong of “Moving,” Jung Hae-in of “D.P 2”, Jin Sun-kyu for “Bargain”, Lee Sung-min for “Shadow Detective,” and Ahn Jae-hong for “Mask Girl.” In the end, Choi Min-sik won the Best Actor award, and in his absence, he expressed gratitude to the director and the entire staff of “Casino.”
Meanwhile, in the Best Actress in a series category, the nominees were Song Hye-kyo for “The Glory,” Han Hyo-joo for “Moving,” Lee Na-young for “One Day Off,” Go Hyun-jung for “Mask Girl,” Jeon Jong-seo for “Bargain,” and Yeom Hye-ran for “Mask Girl.” Han Hyo-joo, who won the Best Actress award, expressed humility and thanked her fellow nominees and the team behind “Moving.”
In summary, the 59th Daejong Film Awards saw Disney+’s contents, especially “Moving” and “Casino,” swept the awards in Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress, leaving other OTT platforms like Netflix with disappointing results.
