BIG BANG’s G-Dragon reportedly shaved his entire body hair before attending the police summons
On November 6th, G-Dragon voluntarily appeared at the first investigation conducted by Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Division on drug charges. That day, the male singer tested negative in a simple drug test, making his claim of innocence more convincing.
However, it was later revealed that G-Dragon had shaved all his body except for his hair, raising suspicions that he was trying to avoid drug tests. Previously, singer & actor Park Yoo-chun, who was arrested for taking methamphetamine in 2019, and broadcaster Robert Holley, who was investigated by the police on drug charges in 2018, also attended the police summons after shaving his body.
In this regard, G-Dragon argued to the police that he shaved his hair as a regular habit, not to avoid the investigation.
Normally, the simple drug test gives results with 100% accuracy but it can only detect drugs taken 5 to 10 days ago. Therefore, a drug investigation often requires a body hair test in addition to a urine test. However, in the case of G-Dragon, there was no body hair to collect, so the police decided to take his nail samples instead. Nail examination can reveal drug use from approximately 5 to 6 months ago and detect substances such as methamphetamine or ecstasy. In the case of hair, drug use can be analyzed for up to a year depending on its length. However, for people like G-Dragon who frequently dye or bleach their hair due to the nature of their job, it is harder to detect all drug substances.
The police suspect that G-Dragon might have attempted to destroy evidence by removing his body hair so they plan to expand the investigation to secure other evidence. In addition, they will summon G-Dragon again after receiving the detailed examination result from the National Forensic Service for a reinforcement investigation.
