HyunA, controversy spreads over apparent targeting of ex-boyfriend Dawn

On April 18th, HyunA appeared on the YouTube channel “Jo Hyun-ah’s Thursday Night” and revealed her dating story with her boyfriend Yong Jun-hyung.

On that day, HyunA said, “I’m thankful that I met a person who gives me courage in doing my work. I’m going to meet my boyfriend after this filming. Dating? It’s really good.”

However, the controversy arose regarding HyunA’s attire.

In the video, HyunA appeared wearing a T-shirt from a domestic brand. However, the shirt had the phrase “Siri, block ex number.” printed on it.

HyunA’s ex-boyfriend is singer Dawn, with whom she had been in a long-term relationship. The two publicly dated starting in 2018 and even got engaged, but they broke up in 2022. Dawn, who was a member of boy group Pentagon, left the team and the agency after going public with their relationship.

They continued their confident relationship while actively participating in various entertainment programs and unit activities. They also work for the same companies, from Cube Entertainment, P Nation to AT AREA.

Amidst this, there were suspicions that the phrase on HyunA’s T-shirt was targeting Dawn. Netizens commented, “Why would she wear such a T-shirt in her first public appearance on a variety show after dating Yong Jun-hyung?“, “HyunA’s ex-boyfriend is Dawn, everyone knows that“, “There seems to be a lack of consideration for Dawn“…

Earlier in January, HyunA surprised fans by announcing her relationship with Yong Jun-hyung. Yong Jun-hyung also informed fans of this fact, saying, “You might have been surprised by the sudden news. We are hanging out happily while receiving positive energy from each other, so please look at us warmly.”

However, the response from fans and netizens was not positive. This is because Yong Jun-hyung was embroiled in controversy regarding illegal filming by singer Jung Joon-young in 2019. At the time, Yong Jun-hyung initially denied the controversy but reversed his position after 3 days and withdrew from the group.
