My name is Jane Taylor and I have lived in a beautiful corner of Kent in South East England for all of my life. My house and the home of my five beautiful children is where it all began. I created Taylor Made Cakes of Tenterden from home and in the beginning, it was the hub of my thriving Cake Making business. I specialize in botanically realistic buttercream frosting flowers.
After hundreds of requests, I decided to take the leap and film online tutorials for each flower, allowing people to chose which buttercream bloom they would like to learn. I now have over 3000 international students who all make the most beautiful, colorful cupcake creations.
Amongst all this uncertainty due to COVID-19, it is a window of peace.
I have had to pause my cake business until it’s safe to open again. So being able to offer my online tutorials has been invaluable. I’ve enjoyed being at home with my children but needed something to focus on. So, today I made some buttercream and started piping. It’s very therapeutic because when you’re piping, you can’t think about anything other than what you’re piping. You forget for a while what’s going on outside your front door and the rest of the world. You have to sit, be calm and quiet or you won’t be able to pipe beautiful buttercream flowers. It’s made me feel great today focusing on something that blocks out COVID-19.
Nothing is more rewarding to me than watching my students flourish and enjoy what they are doing, and I love seeing their progress as they learn.
Taylor Made Cakes would not be where it is today without the support of all my customers and students.
So here just for Bored Panda readers, I have written down the recipe and method for how to make beautiful buttercream tulips with Russian piping tips. PLUS exclusively for Bored Panda readers: if you add a Cornflower to your basket and use discount code BoredPanda you will gain access to download the tutorial absolutely free of charge.
You can see a video tutorial for my buttercream, cupcakes & tulips on my Youtube channel. The rest of my Taylor Made tutorials are available on my website.
Enjoy!

Russian nozzles tips for piping
– Always make sure you don’t have too much buttercream in your piping bag.
– Twist the piping bag really tightly.
– Make sure you hold the piping bag vertically and touch the nozzle on top of the cupcake so you make contact with the cupcake.
– Squeeze firmly and then lift and carry on squeezing, then stop squeezing, pause and pull away.
Use a Wilton 352 piping tip to make the leaves
– Turn the piping tip so it looks like a bird’s beak and then in between each tulip squeeze firmly and pull away gently and then release to pipe a leaf.
– Repeat this in between each tulip and then 3 in the center.
