Jamie Lynn Spears is opening up about her sister Britney Spears’ reaction to losing out on her first-ever Grammy.
During the latest episode of the U.K. reality show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, Jamie Lynn, 32, revealed that her older sibling, 41, was left “heartbroken” after being beaten to the best new artist award by Christina Aguilera during the 2000 Grammy Awards.
The Zoey 101 alum’s comments came as her fellow campmate, Made in Chelsea alum Sam Thompson, discussed losing out on a gong at the British Podcast Awards earlier this year.
“Want to hear about something really embarrassing that happened one time?” Jamie Lynn asked her costars. “It involves my sister. She was up for her first Grammy. It was her and Christina [Aguilera].”
“Britney was clearly the bigger star of that year, she worked her ass off,” Jamie Lynn continued. “They had MTV camera crews at home watching our family, because it was like a no-brainer, she’s winning. And she’s there and she lost.”
“What did she do?” asked Thompson, 31.
“She was at the awards show, she was at the Grammys,” explained Jamie Lynn. “I was so young, I was probably like 8 or 7 or something. I just remember being like, ‘This is crap.’ ”
Going on to defend her sister and sharing Britney’s sadness at the loss, the Sweet Magnolias actress continued, “Christina won it, and by the way remember Christina was wonderfully talented, but that year, I mean come on, let’s be honest, ‘It’s Britney, bitch’ like always.”
“She was really like, ‘I don’t ever want to go to the Grammys.’ She was heartbroken about that because her whole life had been dedicated to winning that.”
“Tell Britney I understand,” joked Thompson.
However, Britney did return to the Grammys, and in 2004 she went on to take home the award for best dance recording for “Toxic.” She has also received eight nominations in total.

In an earlier episode of the competition show, Jamie Lynn gave a small insight into her current relationship with her sister during a chat with First Dates maître d’ Fred Sirieix.
“I think every family fights and has their stuff but I talked to her before I came here and we love each other,” she said.
Jamie Lynn has endured a rocky relationship with her sister over the years.
In her new memoir The Woman in Me, which was released last month, Britney shared that she was trying to have “more compassion” for her younger sibling after feeling hurt by Jamie Lynn’s alleged participation in the conservatorship she was under for 13 years.
“She will always be my sister, and I love her and her beautiful family. I’m working to feel more compassion than anger toward her, and everyone who I feel has wronged me. It’s not that easy,” Britney writes in the book.
The singer’s conservatorship was terminated in November 2021.
