Newcomer Jang Da-ah showcased a natural acting performance as if tailor-made for her role in “Pyramid Game”
Jang Da-ah took her first steps as an actress through TVING’s original series “Pyramid Game”, which premiered on February 29th.
“Pyramid Game” tells the story of an all-girls high school where popularity polls are used to rank students in class, and the differential treatment leads to school violence.
Jang Da-ah plays the role of Princess Baek Ha-rin in Class 2–5 of Baekyeon Girls’ High School. Baek Ha-rin is a student who is always loved for her gentle and dignified demeanor but has a cleverness behind it. She is also one of the key figures in the Pyramid Game, which selects legal outcasts.
Jang Da-ah has been praised for her high synchronization with Baek Ha-rin. She excellently portrayed Baek Ha-rin, who hides her true nature behind her seemingly unfocused eyes, cold expressions and even her manner of speaking.
Her styling and sophisticated appearance as the granddaughter of the prominent Baekyeon Group stood out. Especially in the scene where Jang Da-ah’s character warns Kim Ji-yeon (as Seong Su-ji) while smoking, Baek Ha-rin’s psychopathic traits were vividly revealed.
Facing preconceptions due to being recognized as the older sister of IVE’s Jang Won-young before her debut, Jang Da-ah’s acting challenge was initially overlooked by some viewers. However, she managed to turn concerns into anticipation with her acting prowess, which did not feel out of place among other actors.
Jang Da-ah also handled well the difficult task of portraying smoking scenes, which can be challenging for rookie actresses. Enjoying the similarities between her and her sister Jang Won-young’s voice and appearance added to the enjoyment of the drama.
It remains to be seen until the final episode. Nonetheless, viewers are looking forward to seeing how Jang Da-ah, who has already passed the test, will perform as Baek Ha-rin in the remaining episodes.
Episodes 5 and 6 of “Pyramid Game” will be released on TVING on March 7th.
