For Jasmine Curtis-Smith, returning back to taping for Descendants of the Sun (The Philippine Adaptation) was like day one all over again.
It’s been six months since the series’ production was suspended. That’s why she had a hard time internalising her character as Captain Moira, a military doctor, anew.
This is also because she had portrayed different roles in those six months like a nurse in GMA’s I Can See You and a lesbian in the short fillm Until It’s Safe. Her upcoming film with Piolo Pascual was presumably shot during that time as well.
“I jumped from a different production then I had three days to kinda brush that character off and try to go back to Captain Moira and, especially, matagal na siyang hindi na-portray. Kumabaga, I haven’t been in her shoes for quite some time,” Jasmine revealed during the media conference of Descendants of the Sun (The Philippine Adaptation) TV return on Wednesday, October 21.
Jasmine is also fully aware that she has to give her 101 percent in portraying Moira, given that the series will debut on Netflix Philippines.
“I just started watching the original series again and then I tried to look at the clips from our serye also para magamay ko ulit. And then I read some of my notes from my past tapings,” she said.
“Sayang ‘pag hindi maganda ‘yung result, considering we’re gonna be on a bigger platform so I really want to make sure to give that but it was difficult,” Jasmine further shared.
Descendants of the Sun (The Philippine Adaptation) first premiered on GMA earlier this year. However, production was suspended for six months due to the quarantine brought about by the pandemic. Production resumed last month allowing the series to return to TV, starting with an eight-day recap on October 26.
What a cast, indeed.
GMA Network on Instagram posted a photo of the cast members for its new show Pamiya Roces and we couldn’t help but gawk at names and faces included.
Veteran stars Gloria Diaz, Roi Vinzon, Snooky Serna join forces with GMA’s homegrown talents like Carla Abellana, Gabbi Garcia, Rocco Nacino, Winwyn Marquez, and Christian Bautista, and newly signed Jasmine Curtis-Smith.
Pamilya Roces, in fact, is Jasmine’s first project with the Kapuso Network.
“Very thankful kasi hinintay ako ng GMA na makalipat. (Cut to) Yung first kong gagawin is not basta lang na pinasok ako. They really wanted it to be a special project na magiging parte ako. Kasi they really believe in me. Napaka thankful kasi nararamdaman mo yung value at worth mo sa kanila,” Jasmine was quoted on a Balitanghali report on Thursday.
“pinaghahandaan ko talaga especially kasi powerhouse cast,” Carla Abellana said, before pointing out yet another factor that makes Pamilya Roces the one to watch: “It’s the comeback project of Joel Lamangan. I’m really very happy to be part of it.” — LA, GMA News
