Jericho Rosales wants darker roles, open to working with former leading ladies

Actor Jericho Rosales expressed that he wants to do more serious, darker roles and be in more character-driven films in the future.

In a new cover story for Cosmopolitan Philippines, the 44-year-old actor revealed that he wants to take on characters with flawed personalities.

“Give me grit, give me darkness, give me real stuff,” he said when asked what projects he wants to do.

He added, “The character doesn’t follow the plot or the story, but actually, the story follows the character.”

He also revealed that an upcoming project that he’s working on has a chnaracter he really wanted to take to.

“This is a really, really crazy character. If you see me in this film — I’m not going to give away too much — but some people have said, ‘Is that you?’ when they looked at the photos,” the actor explained about his film Eliseo.

He also shared an update on his upcoming series, Sellblock, which also follows the story of grittier characters.

“I’m going from gray to dark — meaning, human, totoong tao,” he remarked.

“I like playing characters like that. Flawed characters. That gives me a lot of things to work on and to play with, like a character who struggles with morality. I can even play a sociopath or a psychopath,” he stated.

Aside from sharing what he wants for his future projects, Jericho also revealed that he is very open to working again with his former leading ladies, especially Kristine Hermosa.

“I’ve always said it: I want to work with Kristine because I feel like [it’s] some sort of unfinished business when it comes to our run,” he said, recalling about their hit series Pangako Sa’Yo.

The actor also said that the project he is eyeing to work on with his former co-star is a movie that takes off from the last episode and tells the story of where his Angelo Buenavista and Kristine’s Yna Macaspac are, 20-plus years later.

“It was the 25th anniversary [of Pangako Sa’yo] just recently, and I told my manager —because Kristine and I had the same manager before — I was like, ‘Hey, how is she? Do you think she’s going to be open to working with me?'” he remarked.

He added: “I don’t want us to be parents — it’s just like, rock and roll lang kasi, you know, last na.”

The actor also revealed that he actually read netizens’ comments about a possible reunion with his ex-girlfriend Heart Evangelista.

“I’ve read a bunch of things and I see a lot of things in the news about Heart and I working together. I actually tried to work with her,” he continued. “But you know, things will fall into [their] right place naman.”

Jericho also opened up about the possibility of working together with other artists.

“As long as they want to work with me, I’m always open to that,” he expressed.

Jericho’s last project was the hit Kapamilya series, Halik, in 2018.

“After publicly — in a press conference — announcing my departure sa TV with Halik, the last TV show that I did, I kind of cornered myself and said, ‘This is my last show,'” he stated.

He continued: “And after doing that, I was just secretly happy, not working, not doing anything.”
