She is rumored to be making a grand comeback after her last two albums failed to reach the heights of her heyday, and the fans of Katy Perry are now ready for her renaissance.
Affectionately known as ‘KatyCats’ – the Teenage Dream singer’s fans have been hard at work on X, formerly Twitter, with a campaign to support the star along with the hashtag #JUSTICEFORKATYPERRY.
As a result, her fanbase have driven her fifth studio album Witness to the top of several countries’ iTunes charts, nearly seven years after its release – with some fans claiming that the record’s release was originally sabotaged back in 2017.
The album topped the charts in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Turkey, Vietnam, Peru, Guatemala, Philippines, Jordan and other countries, as of Friday.
‘Just look at this!!!’ one fan tweeted with a screenshot of the charts and the hashtag.
‘Never thought we will have a Witness resurgence 7 YEARS LATER, oh the masterpiece that you are,’ wrote another.

‘Time, the ultimate truth teller,’ another KatyCat wrote.
When Witness was originally released in June 2017, the album debuted atop the Billboard 200 but dropped to the No. 13 slot the next week.
Critics had mixed reactions, with Metacritic giving it a 53 Metascore, based on 20 reviews.
Perry’s revived success comes after Observer and Huffington Post journalist Daryl Deino claimed he and other journalists once ‘trashed’ artists like her and Christina Aguilera because it ‘generated a lot of clicks.’
‘Omg-was going to write about how unfair the press was to Katy Perry last decade then found an article I wrote that I am so ashamed of,’ wrote Deino on Twitter.
‘I joined the lynch mob, even though I gave Witness a positive review,’ he added. ‘I’m so ashamed at my former self. Sorry, @katyperry I respect you.’
When asked why the press has been ‘against her,’ Deino responded: ‘Good question! From what I know, her “downfall” —like that of Christina Aguilera—wasn’t organic.
‘It was planned by “some” people,’ he added. ‘And then there were writers, like me, who trashed her because it generated a lot of clicks, which = $.’
Perry, 39, previously said she ‘became very upset and clinically depressed‘ after releasing Witness as she reflected in a 2020 interview on The Morning Show.

Perry previously announced she’s leaving American Idol after seven seasons ahead of a ‘very exciting year,’ in which she’s rumored to be releasing a new album
‘I became very insecure and had to go on a journey, both emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically to understand why I relied so much on validation,’ she said.
‘I had to realize that everything related to my career isn’t all of what life is, it’s just a part of who I am,’ added Perry.
The negative reaction ultimately inspired the titular single from her 2020 follow-up album Smile.
Perry is rumored to be making a musical comeback, which Deino calls the ‘biggest musical comeback since Mariah Carey with The Emancipation of Mimi.’
