During the presscon for their film Chances Are, You and I, lead actor Kelvin Miranda cleared up rumors which surfaced last year after shooting the film linking him to co-star Kira Balinger. After listening to her leading man during the event, Kira chose to defend Kelvin, even after netizens started branding her as the third party in Kelvin’s relationship during that time.
“Sa aming actors, if you are a good actor, magiging totoo talaga yung nararamdaman namin. Kasi kung ganun lang kadali yung trabaho namin, eh di kahit sino makakapag-acting, makakagawa ng movie. But it really takes a lot of guts to use your true emotions to show that, to be vulnerable sa lahat ng cast, sa lahat ng production. And you know, with Kelvin’s personality and his character and the nature of our work, it’s a beautiful love story and it just happens. Stuff happens before we even know it.But we didn’t let it affect the quality of our work. We didn’t let it affect our working relationship. So I think that’s what really matters,” she said.
The 23-year-old actress also showed how grateful she was to finally land her first starring role on the big screen. “Ang masasabi ko napakalaking blessing ito na natuloy ang napakagandang movie na pinaghirapan ko. Emotional ang moment na ito dahil ang tagal naming inantay ito ni Kelvin. Ang dami naming pinagdaanan. Our director fought battles for this. So ngayong natuloy na ang aming movie, napakalaking blessing nito para sa amin. Natuloy rin ang pinaghirapan namin. Ilang beses ko na rin pinanood ang trailer kasi gusto ko na talaga siyang mapanood ng buo,” she added.
In the film, Kira plays the role of Gabriel Sinag, or Gab, a woman who believes that life has a perfect ending. She is an optimist who finds an unexpected connection when she meets a fellow patient named Soleil Sikat, or “Sol” (played by Kelvin), who is convinced death is inevitable with his sickness and is a pessimist.
While working on the film, Kira said she liked how professional their schedule was especially when they were shooting on location in South Korea.
“Kasi tayo, nasanay tayo sa Filipino time, hindi puwede sa kanila dun. So, it was a good practice for all of us to have discipline when we were there. Especially, since yung kalaban namin dun was the weather, it was so cold. You know the overall experience was so wonderful, it was so memorable and na-miss ko yung lamig lasi nga I’m from the U.K. So ngayon lang din ako naka-experience ng ganun ang lamig po,” Kira recalled. .
After the issue about them came out, Kira said she and Kelvin have managed to remain friends.
“We’re okay. As colleagues, siyempre we both show up for work. I think I can say that we are both professional when it comes to our work. So no matter what happens, we both have to show up. And you know it’s a beautiful film and Direk Cathy (Camarillo), she gave her all for this movie. I don’t think we could do this together kung hindi po kami friends, kung meron ano sa isa’t isa, mahirap po yun, di ba?” Kira explained.
Chances Are, You and I opens in cinemas nationwide starting May 29. The film is produced by Pocket Media Productions, Incorporation, in partnership with Happy Infinite Productions, Incorporation, and Pocket Media Films. Regal Entertainment will distribute the film.
