Lana Del Rey Joins Adele In A Major Chart Milestone

Lana Del Rey recently announced a new album slated to arrive in 2024–the country-leaning Lasso–but fans aren’t done with her first full-length. The singer’s debut project Born to Die is still charting, and this week, it reaches a major milestone–one which only just a single other woman has hit in American history.

Born to Die has now lived on the Billboard 200–the chart company’s weekly ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S.–for 520 weeks. That’s exactly 10 years, which is a very long time for any project to continue to be streamed and purchased by thousands of people each week.

Del Rey is now only the second woman to see one of her albums spend a decade on the Billboard 200. The first female musician to manage this incredible feat was Adele. Her globe-dominating project 21 has thus far racked up 596 weeks somewhere on the ranking.

This frame, Born to Die is steady at No. 60–an impressive placement for a decade-old title. The set shifted another 13,717 equivalent units in the U.S. last week, according to Luminate. That figure includes pure purchases as well as many equivalent units, which are made up of streaming activity and the sales of individual tunes featured on the album.

As Del Rey matches Adele’s feat, the latter star is still charting as well. 21 dips on the latest Billboard 200 chart, landing at No. 176 as it approaches 600 weeks on the tally. According to Luminate, that Grammy-winning title moved another 8,000 equivalent copies last tracking period.

An honorable mention must go to Fleetwood Mac, whose Rumours album has spent 565 weeks on the Billboard 200. The band is made up of both men and women, including Stevie Nicks and the late Christine McVie.

Looking at all artists, the list of those who have seen at least one album live on the Billboard 200 for a decade expands considerably. The record for the most frames spent on the tally is still held by Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. That rocking effort has thus far earned 988 stays on the tally. Fellow musical superstars like Journey, Metallica, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruno Mars, Eminem, and others have also joined this club, which includes fewer than 20 releases.
