They say you can’t have it all. But forLovi Poeeverything is possible.
Lovi—who recently married non-showbiz partner Monty Blencowe—is on a high with everything happening in her life, juggling her career and personal life. In an exclusive interview with Cosmopolitan Philippines, the seasoned actress shared what it is like to be a newlywed amid her flourishing acting career in the PH and abroad.
Lovi Poe on why she kept engagement with Monty Blencowe private
Lovi and Monty tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Berkshire, England in August 2023. But aside from their private wedding, the couple kept their engagement a secret from the public for two years. Lovi announced she was to marry Monty just a few weeks before the wedding ceremony.
When asked for the reason behind the secrecy of the engagement, Lovi said it was primarily out of respect since her husband is a private person. Lovi also enjoyed that there was a detail about her life that she could share only with Monty.
“To be honest I feel like first of all, my husband’s very private and so is his family. So I was also trying to be respectful. And also I think it was something that we wanted to share together. Share with our circle first. It’s just nice to have something that’s yours… at least for the first few two years,” Lovi revealed.
Lovi Poe on her long-distance married life
A long-distance relationship between married couples is a lot of work, says Lovi. Her husband is based in Los Angeles, California, while she works in the Philippines. She appreciates that Monty understands she wants to keep her showbiz career here in Manila.
Lovi also tries her very best to do her part in this thing called ~*LDR*~. “It’s a lot of work. It’s so far…But of course, I don’t wanna abuse that kindness. So now, I make the conscious effort to choose the things that I’m gonna work on,” she said.
Lovi clarified, “If it means being away from my husband, I just wanna make sure that it’s really very important. I just wanna choose what’s worth leaving home.”
Despite the struggles of maintaining a long-distance relationship, Lovi is enjoing her life as a newlywed. Describing her married life, Lovi declared, “It’s great. I’m having a blast. I’m learning how to become a wife! It’s a new thing for me, […] but now I’m adjusting and learning.”
With that, we also asked about the *weirdest* thing she has experienced since she got married. In a split second, she admits that even after several months since they sealed the deal, Lovi is still not used to using the word husband! “After I say it, I’m like, wow? I didn’t even get to use fiance that much because we were very quiet about it. But everything else feels natural,” she told Cosmo.
Although it still feels weird for her to call Monty her husband, having a husband is the *best* thing for Lovi after marriage. She’s still getting used to it, but having her best friend always right by her side makes her happy.
“Best thing about being married? You just have your best friend all the time. You just have someone you can rely on. I’ve been so independent all my life and I’m still getting used to having someone that I can actually rely on. It’s nice. Ang sarap pala ng feeling na someone can actually take care of you,” Lovi heartily said. We’re so happy for you, Lovi!
