Man Accused Of Breaking Into Eminem's Home And Threatening To Kill Him

A man is alleged to have broken into Eminem’s house and told him he was there to ‘kill him’, a court has heard.

Matthew David Hughes, 27, is accused of breaking into the 47-year-old rapper’s home last April, Detroit News reports.

He has appeared at Macomb County District Court where he faces charges of home invasion and malicious destruction of property after allegedly throwing a paving stone through a window to gain access to the property.

Detective Dan Quinn told Judge Jacob Michael Femminineo Jr. that he was able to identify Hughes as the man in the security footage.

Speaking in court, Officer Adam Hackstock, of the Clinton Township Police, said that Eminem – real name Marshall Mathers – initially thought the intruder was his nephew, but when he realised it wasn’t he asked the man why he was there.

Hackstock said: “When Mr Mathers asked him why he was there, he was told by Mr Hughes that he was there to kill him.”

The officer went on to say that Eminem, who has 24-hour security at his home, escorted the man out of the house.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Eminem, Hughes and a security guard waiting outside. Cops said the man was unarmed.

But Hughes’ attorney Richard Glanda told the court his client denies saying that, telling Fox: “I’m not sure where [the officer’s statement] came from.”

He went on to say there was ‘no physical contact between the two in the house’.

Speaking outside court, Glanda said: “In my opinion, I think there’s some sort of mental issues involved here.”

He is reported to have requested a competency evaluation for his client, but Hughes turned it down.

Hughes has been held on a $50,000 bond since his arrest on 6 April. He will be back in court on 26 September.

Eminem – who had a hit song about a dangerously obsessive fan titled ‘Stan’ – did not appear in court but his attorney watched over proceedings via a video-link.

It has since emerged that Hughes was previously arrested for breaking into another Michigan home – once belonging to the rapper – last year.

Doorbell camera footage, above, caught him attempting to gain access to a property in Rochester Hills.

He was told to leave but was found hiding in an outbuilding on the property.

According to The Daily Mail, he was arrested for breaking and entering, and sentenced to 90 days in jail.
