A perennial bathroom issue has been addressed at the National Stadium in Singapore, the venue of six Taylor Swift concerts held in March 2024.
To fix the issue of long queues that form outside female toilets, especially during major events with large crowds, the National Stadium has temporarily converted some male bathrooms to female ones — by slapping a makeshift “dress” on the male toilet symbol.
This switch is to allow women to have access to more bathroom stalls.
The conversion of male bathrooms to female ones is also likely to cater to the gender imbalance, according to women concert-goers that Mothership spoke to, who said there has so far been a greater number of women in attendance compared to men at the first three Taylor Swift concerts.
This flexibility in converting male bathrooms to female ones is greatly appreciated, they said, as it cuts down on waiting times.
However, it was also noted that there was a lack of sanitary bins in some of the male toilets.
As a result, sanitary pads were either thrown on the ground or in the toilet bowl.
This sort of bathroom imbalance is not a new issue.
While female and male bathrooms are typically created equally in terms of size and quantity, efforts have been made to ensure that female bathrooms are larger than male ones.
