Apple launched a new iPhone iOS 14 update on Wednesday (16 July), but one of the main features is that has basically turned the back of your phone into a ‘button’.
The ‘Back Tap’ feature that came with the new software means that you can now control your iPhone in a new way – just by tapping the back of it.
To turn it on, firstly – update your phone. If you’ve not already, you must be getting sick of the notification (I know I am) – then go to settings.
Scroll to ‘Accessibility’ and the on to ‘Touch’.
Go all the way down and you’ll notice an option – ‘Back Tap’.

You will get the same options, click on them and you can see the features you can control with a double or a triple tap, on the back of your phone.
The options include taking a screenshot, changing the volume, scrolling and magnifying.
Whichever you pick, you will be able to control it by tapping the back of your phone twice or three times.
Be aware that it might not work properly if you have a thick phone case on.
The new update will make your device ‘more intelligent, more personal, and more private’ and is free to download from the app store for iPhone 6s and above.
One interesting new feature is the ‘Picture in Picture’ mode, which allows you to do various things simultaneously – so you can do bits and pieces on your phone or FaceTime while half watching Netflix.

“Color is a tool for expressing emotions, a tool to speak more honestly about the feelings of the day. I like taking pictures in time and space where I can express colors well. I have a fairy-tale moment every day at sunset.” #ShotoniPhone by Chaewoo R. @ryufill_foto
Widgets have been totally redesigned to enable you to see more information at a glance. You can change the size of the widgets and use ‘Smart Stack’ which ‘intelligently curates’ their arrangement based on which apps you use the most.
‘Compact Calls’ do exactly what they say on the tin – calls of any kind appear in a new compact design, meaning they don’t take up your whole screen.
You’re also able to order message conversations in order of importance by pinning chats and have access to a new range of Memojis, many of which now feature face coverings.
