Occasionally seeing bubbles in the toilet is normal.
But persistent, unusually foamy urine can sometimes indicate excess protein in the urine, known as proteinuria.
Proteinuria can occur when the kidney's filtering structures are damaged.
It does not necessarily mean you have kidney disease, but persistent changes are worth testing with a urine sample.
5. Blood in the Urine
Urine that appears pink, red, or brown may contain blood.
Blood in the urine can occur with urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate problems, certain medications, or kidney disease. In some cases, it can also be associated with more serious conditions affecting the urinary tract.
Visible blood in the urine should not be ignored.
Even if there is no pain, medical evaluation is appropriate.
6. Very Dark or Unusually Cloudy Urine
Urine concentration naturally changes throughout the day.
Dark yellow urine commonly indicates that you're dehydrated.
Cloudy urine can occur with urinary infections, crystals, or other conditions.
Persistent or unexplained changes—especially when accompanied by pain, fever, blood, or changes in urination—should be checked.
7. Persistent Itchy Skin
Severe or persistent itching can occur in people with advanced kidney disease.
When kidney function becomes significantly reduced, waste products and mineral imbalances can contribute to itching.
However, itchy skin is extremely common and can also result from allergies, eczema, dry skin, medications, liver disease, and many other conditions.
Itching alone is not evidence of kidney disease.
8. Very Dry Skin
Advanced kidney disease can be associated with dry, irritated skin.
The image's depiction of unusual skin changes should therefore be interpreted carefully. Dry or flaky skin by itself is not a reliable way to diagnose kidney problems.
