Using a phone while going to the bathroom is a harmful habit that many health experts warn against. It can lead to serious consequences that most people are unaware of. Intestine Prolapsed After Sitting on the Toilet with a Phone for 2 Hours

A hospital in Zhengzhou, China, recently admitted a unique case involving a 33-year-old man who suffered a rectal prolapse while using the toilet.

At the hospital, the man reported experiencing severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding while in the bathroom. Shortly after, about 13 cm of his intestine protruded outside his body.

Doctors diagnosed him with grade 3 rectal prolapse—the most severe stage of the condition. Without timely medical treatment, his situation could worsen to the point where even a light cough might cause the intestines to fall out.

Upon reviewing the patient’s medical history and habits, doctors discovered he regularly squatted over a traditional squat toilet while watching short videos on his phone—sometimes for up to two hours at a time.

Doctors strongly advise limiting the time spent on the toilet to 5–10 minutes. Staying beyond 10 minutes significantly raises the risk of issues such as hemorrhoids, rectal prolapse, and stretched rectal mucosa.

5 Health Risks of Using Your Phone in the Bathroom

1. Increased Risk of Bacterial Infection

Bathrooms are filled with bacteria. Every time you flush the toilet, germs can spread through aerosolized droplets and land on nearby surfaces—including your phone.
Tip: Always close the toilet lid before flushing to minimize germ dispersal.

2. Higher Risk of Hemorrhoids

Prolonged sitting increases pressure on the veins around the anus. When seated on the toilet, gravity causes strain on the rectal area, which can lead to swollen and painful veins—eventually resulting in hemorrhoids.

3. Reduced Blood Flow to the Brain

Sitting in one position for too long—especially without support—can cause dizziness or fainting due to poor blood circulation to the brain. Constant phone use can make you lose track of time, exacerbating the problem. Over time, this can accelerate brain aging and cognitive decline.

4. Constipation and Digestive Disorders

Using your phone in the bathroom for extended periods may interfere with your natural bowel movements. This can lead to conditions like colon spasms, constipation, and overall digestive issues.

5. Increased Risk of Acne

Bringing your phone into the bathroom exposes it to germs. When you touch your face or hold the phone close, these bacteria can transfer to your skin, increasing the likelihood of acne and skin inflammation.

In summary: Limiting phone use in the bathroom isn’t just about productivity—it’s about protecting your health. A few minutes of scrolling can lead to long-term medical consequences.
