6 warning signs of late stage tongue c.a.ncer

The rate of tongue cancer in Vietnam and other countries in the world is increasing, it is one of the common cancers in the mouth and surrounding areas.

According to Nghe An Oncology Hospital, tongue cancer is a common type of cancer in the mouth and around the mouth. Tongue cancer does not have obvious signs in the early stages until the disease breaks out.

Tongue cancer is common in men over 50 years old, but in recent years this disease has shown signs of rejuvenation. Therefore, understanding the causes as well as recognizing the symptoms of the disease can help prevent the disease in time.

In patients with stage 3 tongue cancer, cancer cells have spread to the surface or underside of the tongue, causing severe ulcers, secondary infections that make the tongue painful, have an unpleasant odor, and bleed easily. The tumor size can be larger than 4cm and has not metastasized to the lymph nodes.

The remaining cases are variable in size and have spread to a lymph node within a radius of less than 3cm. The 5-year survival rate of patients with stage 3 tongue cancer is about 58%.

In stage 3, patients with tongue cancer may experience some symptoms such as:

- The patient has a lot of pain when eating and drinking, the pain lasts for a long time, making it difficult to speak. The pain increases when speaking, chewing, and especially when eating spicy, hot foods, sometimes the pain spreads to the ear.

- Increased salivation, saliva mixed with blood, bad breath.

- Some cases cause the jaw to tighten, making the tongue fixed, making it difficult to speak and swallow

- Note that there will be an ulcer on the tongue, the ulcer is covered with a layer of pseudomembrane that bleeds easily, the ulcer develops quickly, spreads, limiting the tongue's movement, making it immobile.

- Ulcerative lesions, formed from an irregular ulcer with pus and blood at the bottom, jagged edges, easily bleeding when touched.

- Sometimes there is no sign of ulceration but a large core appears, firmly attached to the lower layer, protruding under the smooth, pale purple mucosa, the mucosa is pockmarked with small holes that when pressed will leak a white substance, the product of necrosis underneath.
