Backup battery exp.lodes, s.m.o.ke fills the plane

THAILAND - A Batik Air plane suddenly encountered an accident when a passenger's spare battery exploded, causing smoke to fill the cabin.

The Straits Times reported on March 2 that the Batik Air plane took off from Johor Bahru (Malaysia) at 11:20 (local time) and was only about 30 minutes away from landing at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok when the incident occurred.

In the video posted by user Kentmaherr, which has attracted more than 2.1 million views, smoke can be seen coming from the overhead luggage compartment of the plane. "All passengers were shocked to see thick smoke coming out of the luggage compartment, the burning smell hit our noses," Kentmaherr wrote.

Passengers sitting near the affected area were asked to leave their seats as flight attendants opened the overhead luggage compartment and used fire extinguishers to put out the fire.

Immediately afterwards, a passenger was escorted by a flight attendant to the back of the plane to open the bag suspected of containing an explosive. This person immediately took out a burning spare battery. The fire was completely extinguished with 3 bottles of mineral water.

All passengers on the flight praised the crew for their professional and quick handling of the emergency situation.

Although the plane later landed successfully at Don Mueang Airport, fire brigades and ambulances were still mobilized as a backup and to ensure the safety of all passengers.
