Caught on Camera: My Daughter-in-Law Secretly Gave Money to Her Mother—My One Sentence Left Them Both Shocked
I was so upset after a neighbor’s comment that I decided to install extra security cameras in the house.
After my son got married, he wanted to move out for more privacy. But my husband and I didn’t agree—we have a spacious home with more than enough rooms. To encourage them to stay, we offered to cover all monthly expenses like food, water, and electricity. When my daughter-in-law gave birth, I was too busy with work to help with childcare, so I gave them an extra 10 million VND each month to support them.
Since staying home to care for the baby, my daughter-in-law frequently visits her parents’ house in the countryside. It’s only 14 kilometers away, but she often stays there for half a month at a time, and I really miss my grandchild. Occasionally, my husband and I go visit on weekends.
One day, while chatting with a neighbor near my in-laws’ house, she praised my son for being so generous to his wife’s parents. According to her, he gave them money to build a house, buy furniture, and even paid for them to go on vacation.
The conversation was cut short when my daughter-in-law’s mother approached, so we quickly changed the topic. But after that day, I felt uneasy. I installed more cameras around the house to keep an eye out for anything unusual.
Last month, while we were away visiting family, I missed my grandchild and checked the cameras remotely. That’s when I overheard a conversation between my son and his wife. My son was frustrated, saying he gave her 12 million VND every month, plus the 10 million I contributed—yet the money still wasn’t enough?
My daughter-in-law started crying, accusing him of being useless and stingy, then listed off their monthly expenses. But I knew she had made up a lot of those items—she hadn’t bought them at all. My son is always busy with work, so he just believes whatever she tells him.
After that, I started watching her more closely. I was determined to catch her red-handed and teach her a lesson.
Last week, my in-law came to visit for a few days. I gave my daughter-in-law two months’ worth of support money and reminded her to buy plenty of milk and nutritious food for the baby. When my daughter-in-law’s mother was about to leave, I happened to be in the bathroom and decided to check the camera feed.
I was furious to see my daughter-in-law secretly handing her mother two thick stacks of cash—the exact money I had just given her. I couldn’t hold back, so I turned on the camera’s speaker and said:
“I gave you that money to take care of my grandchild—why are you secretly giving it to your mother instead?”
Startled by my voice, both my daughter-in-law and her mother dropped the money on the floor in shock. Clearly embarrassed, her mother refused to take the money and quickly left the house.
For the past few days, my daughter-in-law has been giving me the cold shoulder, sulking and refusing to answer me when I speak. I gave her that money for the sake of my grandchild, yet she gave it away to her own parents. Instead of apologizing, she’s angry with me.
Now I’m left wondering: What should I do next?
