Don’t Waste Money on Termite Control Services! Try These 6 Cheap Natural Remedies Already in Your Home
Termites can silently destroy your furniture. Fortunately, there are many ways to eliminate these pests. Let’s take a look at some simple and natural methods.
Termites are harmful insects that can damage wooden furniture like tables, cabinets, windows, and doors. They reproduce quickly and cause significant destruction. Termites can also invade electronic devices, increasing the risk of short circuits or fire.
To get rid of termites, you can try the following natural methods:
1. Use Orange or Lemon Essential Oil
Orange and lemon essential oils are extracted from citrus peels and contain D-limonene, a compound known for killing insects and bacteria. These oils can be used to eliminate termites and many other pests. The citric acid in the oils gradually weakens and kills the termites.
2. Expose Infested Furniture to Sunlight
Sunlight is a natural enemy of termites. If you have wooden furniture infested with termites, place it under direct sunlight for several days. The heat will force the termites to flee and prevent further damage.
3. Use Medicated Oil (e.g., Menthol Oil)
Medicated oil contains various essential oils with strong scents. You can use it to repel termites by applying a few drops directly into termite nests. The smell drives them away. However, this method needs to be repeated several times for maximum effect.
4. Use Kerosene
Kerosene has a strong odor that can kill many types of insects, including termites. Pour it into a spray bottle and apply it to infested areas. Then, cover the furniture with a large plastic sheet to slow the evaporation process and allow the kerosene to penetrate deeply and eliminate the termites.
To minimize the smell, keep the furniture in a well-ventilated area. Once the termites are gone, clean the item thoroughly with a cloth to remove any kerosene residue.
5. Use Borax (Borate Powder)
Borax (sodium borate) is a white powder with strong cleaning and anti-oxidizing properties. It’s highly effective in killing termites. Mix borax with water, stir well, and pour into a spray bottle. Spray the solution in areas where termites are active. Over time, the termites will die off, protecting your home from further damage.
6. Use Vinegar
Vinegar isn’t just for cooking—it’s also a powerful natural insecticide. Pour some vinegar into a spray bottle and spray it directly into termite nests. The acetic acid in vinegar will slowly corrode the termites’ bodies.
For better results, you can mix vinegar with fresh lemon juice.
Note:
If the termite infestation in your home is severe, and natural remedies don’t work, consider using chemical treatments. However, these should only be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Always wear gloves and a mask for personal protection when applying chemical pesticides.
