Warning signs of infection can include:
Increasing redness
Warmth
Swelling
Pain
Pus or drainage
Redness spreading around the affected area
Fever
If these symptoms develop, medical evaluation may be appropriate.
Try to avoid excessive scratching, even though the urge can be difficult to resist.
4. Some People Develop Larger Allergic Reactions
Not everyone reacts to bed bug bites in the same way.
Some individuals develop small red spots, while others may develop larger, swollen, intensely itchy areas.
In people who are particularly sensitive, the reaction can become more extensive.
If you experience facial swelling, difficulty breathing, throat tightness, dizziness, or other signs of a severe allergic reaction, seek emergency medical care.
These symptoms should never be dismissed as an ordinary insect bite.
5. You May Not Notice the Bite Immediately
Another reason bed bug infestations can go unnoticed is that the skin reaction isn't always immediate.
A person may wake up without obvious marks and develop itching or visible spots later.
In addition, some people have little or no reaction to bed bug bites.
Therefore, the absence of bites doesn't necessarily prove that bed bugs aren't present.
If you suspect an infestation, look for physical evidence in the sleeping environment rather than relying only on your skin.
