Man paralyzed overnight, doctor warns of 'silent kill:er'

Bác sĩ ơi: Làm thế nào để phòng ngừa đột quỵ?

The story of the man who became paralyzed overnight serves as a wake-up call about a dangerous disease that is often overlooked: spinal tuberculosis.

A 53-year-old man in China experienced a health crisis when, in just one night, he became paralyzed in both legs and was unable to stand. For the past four months, he had been experiencing chest and back pain but thought it was just typical muscle soreness from work or other common health issues.

However, the situation took a serious turn when, one morning, he could no longer move and lost all feeling in his legs. After being admitted to the hospital and undergoing tests, doctors discovered that he was suffering from tuberculosis of the spine. This condition had destroyed the vertebrae and compressed the spinal cord, leading to paralysis.

Spinal tuberculosis is a disease that is difficult to recognize, especially in its early stages, when symptoms are easily mistaken for other issues like muscle back pain or herniated discs. However, when the pain persists and is accompanied by other symptoms such as mild fever in the afternoon, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, numbness, or worsening weakness in the limbs, doctors recommend early examination to detect the disease.

If left untreated, spinal tuberculosis can have serious consequences, including permanent paralysis or even life-threatening conditions. Fortunately, thanks to timely surgery, the man was able to gradually recover his motor function, but this case serves as an important reminder for everyone to be aware and cautious of this "silent killer."
