Place shoes on the floor or another suitable surface.

Keep food and drinks on the table or desk rather than directly on the bed.

And if you are particularly concerned about a decorative textile, you can simply move it aside.

There's nothing unusual about doing that.

In fact, many travelers remove the runner as soon as they arrive because they prefer sleeping without additional decorative fabric near their feet.

The runner isn't generally necessary for sleeping.

It exists primarily to enhance the presentation of the room.

This is similar to decorative cushions placed on hotel beds.

They may make the room look attractive in photographs and when guests first enter, but they aren't essential to the function of the bed.

So if you see a colorful runner across your hotel bed, don't assume that the hotel is secretly telling you to put your dirty shoes there.
