People with weak hearts and heart disease often have difficulty avoiding these 5 "strange" feelings when sleeping at night!

Here are five unusual sensations commonly experienced by people with a weak heart or underlying heart problems, along with clear explanations. These are not diagnostic, but they are signs that should be monitored and checked by a doctor if they occur frequently.

1. Rapid heartbeat, skipped beats, or “heart pounding”

People with weakened heart function may feel their heart beating irregularly, unusually strong, or skipping a beat and then “thumping” afterward. This can happen even at rest or with slight anxiety. It is often related to arrhythmias or irregular cardiac contractions.

2. Lightheadedness or feeling like you might faint

Because the heart pumps weakly, the brain may not get enough blood momentarily, causing dizziness, spinning sensation, dimming vision, or unsteadiness. If this occurs along with palpitations or cold sweating, medical attention is needed.

3. Chest tightness or a squeezing sensation

It doesn’t always present as severe pain. Some people feel only mild pressure, heaviness, or constriction in the chest, as if something is pressing down. This often appears during exertion, climbing stairs, or emotional stress.

4. Shortness of breath or feeling unable to get enough air

When the heart’s pumping ability is reduced, fluid may build up in the lungs, making breathing more difficult. People may feel breathless, take deep breaths repeatedly, or notice worsened breathing when lying flat, requiring extra pillows to sleep.

5. Unusual fatigue or unexplained weakness

A weak heart cannot supply enough oxygen-rich blood to the body. As a result, the person may feel tired, low-energy, easily exhausted even with light activities, or weak despite adequate rest.

Important note

If symptoms such as severe chest pain, significant shortness of breath, fainting, cold sweating, or pain spreading to the arm or neck occur, emergency medical care is required, as these may signal a serious condition.

If you want, I can help you:

  • Assess whether you may be at risk for heart disease
