Once you are safely away from the snake, call emergency services or seek urgent medical attention as quickly as possible. Time matters, especially if the snake is venomous.
Experts generally recommend keeping the affected limb still and positioned comfortably. Remove rings, watches, bracelets, or tight clothing before swelling develops. If possible, keep movement to a minimum while waiting for help.
Try to remember the snake's appearance from a safe distance, but never attempt to catch or kill it. Medical teams do not need the actual snake to provide treatment, and approaching it again could lead to another bite.

Equally important is knowing what not to do. Medical organizations generally advise against cutting the wound, attempting to suck out venom, applying ice directly to the bite, or using alcohol. These methods have not been shown to remove venom effectively and may worsen tissue damage.
Using a tourniquet is also generally discouraged unless specifically instructed by medical professionals, as it can cause additional injury and complications.
Staying calm, limiting movement, and obtaining medical care remain the most effective steps.
